What To Know

The study used a DSS mouse model (an experimental colitis model) to test Yakuchinone B (YB). Mice receiving YB had smaller weight loss, lower disease-activity scores, less colon shortening, and improved histology compared with untreated DSS mice. YB-treated mice showed lower colonic and serum inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6).

Microbiome profiling and metabolomics in the study found shifts in bacterial taxa and increases in short-chain fatty acids (acetate, propionate, butyrate) alongside changes in metabolic pathways. The findings are from an animal experiment and report biological effects and mechanisms (microbiota and metabolites) rather than clinical benefits in people.

This is exploratory preclinical research that can motivate further study but does not provide evidence to support use of YB in patients.
