Cure8 trial brief
Why This Matters
Relatives of people with IBD are at higher risk; this study aims to identify early markers or behaviors that predict who develops IBD so prevention or earlier diagnosis might become possible.
Who Should Pay Attention
First-degree relatives of people with IBD (age ≥14), caregivers of at-risk teens/adults, and researchers studying IBD risk, biomarkers, or the microbiome.
Study Snapshot
What To Know
This is a Massachusetts General Hospital observational registry recruiting people age 14 and up who have a parent, sibling, or child with IBD but do not themselves have IBD. Participants are asked to complete yearly questionnaires and provide blood, stool, and urine samples; some parts may be done at home while blood draws occur at the study site.
The study plans to follow participants for about 10 years and will track how many develop IBD, with medical-record confirmation when possible.
Keep In Mind
The record is an observational, recruiting registry at Massachusetts General Hospital with planned enrollment of ~50 and annual sample/questionnaire collection. It will collect biospecimens and self-reported outcomes, then seek medical records to confirm any IBD diagnoses.
