This preprint reports a study profiling which gut bacteria bind systemic IgG in people with ulcerative colitis (UC) versus a small set of healthy controls.

Researchers developed an “IgG+ Probability Score (IPS)” to identify taxa preferentially targeted by IgG after correcting for overall bacterial abundance, then used 16S sequencing and functional prediction to characterize those taxa.

Higher IPS for oral-associated commensals (for example, Granulicatella) and mucin-degrading bacteria were linked with active UC and higher systemic inflammation. Machine-learning models using IPS features discriminated disease exacerbation and elevated CRP with AUCs reported in the abstract.

The study is presented as a preprint (abstract-level structured content). Methods include paired fecal samples and autologous sera, 16S rRNA sequencing, an IPS metric to correct for abundance, functional pathway prediction, and Random Forest models for classification.
