What To Know

This animal study tested an intrarectal quince (Cydonia oblonga) gel in a rat model of acetic-acid–induced ulcerative colitis. Over 10 days the treated group showed smaller macroscopic and histologic injury, lower markers of oxidative stress (TAS/TOS/OSI/MDA), and reduced serum inflammatory markers (CRP, TNF‑α, IL‑1β, IL‑6) versus untreated UC rats.

The authors identified quercetin among gel constituents by LC–MS/MS and used bioinformatics and molecular docking to highlight potential targets (TGFB1, STAT3, MMP9) and a predicted quercetin–TNF interaction. The study reports preclinical, mechanistic data rather than human clinical results.

The route was intrarectal gel in rodents, so dosing, safety, and efficacy in people are unknown. Bioinformatic and docking results suggest possible molecular interactions but are not clinical evidence.

Animal-model results and in silico docking generate hypotheses that need validation in human safety and efficacy studies before clinical use. The delivery method (intrarectal gel) and rat physiology limit direct applicability to people.
