Why This Matters

This trial could show whether intra-operative ultrasound can be used reliably to choose the proximal resection margin during ileocecal resection for terminal ileal Crohn’s disease—information that might affect surgical practice and study of post-operative recurrence.

Who Should Pay Attention

Adults with terminal ileal Crohn's disease considering primary ileocolic resection; colorectal surgeons and surgical researchers; IBD clinicians following post-operative recurrence strategies.

What To Know

This is a small, single-center, randomized Phase II trial at the Cleveland Clinic enrolling adults having primary ileocolic resection for terminal ileal Crohn’s disease.

Participants are randomized to IOUS-guided margin selection (Margin B defined by mural thickness ≤2.5 mm and preserved wall stratification) versus standard macroscopic margin selection (Margin A).

The primary outcome listed is feasibility of performing IOUS and designating Margin B intraoperatively; other collected outcomes include histopathology, operative and safety data, and endoscopic recurrence except in patients who require a stoma. The trial is recruiting and plans to enroll 22 participants.

The study protocol and eligibility criteria are described in the registry entry. Because this is a trial record, these are planned methods and outcomes rather than results; no clinical findings or benefits are reported in the registry entry.

Keep In Mind

This is a Phase II, single-center randomized trial (Cleveland Clinic) focused on feasibility and methodological outcomes; the registry lists planned enrollment and eligibility but provides no results. Interpret as planned research rather than evidence of benefit.
