The research analyzed 68 patients seen between 2010–2021 and followed them for one year. On adjusted analysis, lower hemoglobin and higher platelet count were linked to higher odds of a Crohn’s diagnosis, and a combined radiologic finding of stenosis or upstream dilation showed the strongest association.

The authors highlight platelet count and a platelet-to-hemoglobin ratio as having strong discrimination in this sample. The findings are hypothesis-generating: this is a small, single-cohort, retrospective study and the authors explicitly call for prospective external validation before these markers should change clinical practice.
