The investigators sequenced three common CARD15/NOD2 variants (R702W, G908R, 1007fs) from intestinal mucosal biopsy DNA and compared carrier and allele frequencies.

The study found higher carrier frequencies and increased odds ratios for the three NOD2 variants in CD patients versus controls, but the abstract notes these associations did not reach statistical significance.
