The study enrolled 16 pediatric UC patients who had intestinal ultrasound and endoscopy within about a month of each other. MUC uses bowel wall thickness and vascularization on ultrasound. In this cohort MUC scores correlated strongly with the PUCAI clinical score and with an existing pediatric ultrasound score (SPAUSS).
MUC scores were higher in patients with active endoscopic disease (Mayo endoscopic score ≥2), and in this small sample an exploratory cutoff fully separated active from inactive/mild disease.
