Cure8 research brief
Why This Matters
Fatigue is extremely common in IBD and is closely linked to depression—recognizing and addressing mental-health issues may be important for patients who report significant fatigue.
Who Should Pay Attention
Adults with IBD (Crohn disease or ulcerative colitis), gastroenterology clinicians and nurses, researchers focused on IBD quality of life and mental-health comorbidity.
Study Snapshot
What To Know
The study was a cross-sectional analysis of 109 adults with Crohn disease or ulcerative colitis using a validated IBD questionnaire to assess fatigue. Fatigue was common across sexes and both IBD types and was linked with active disease, anemia, overweight/obesity, hypoalbuminemia, and depression.
After multivariable analysis, depression remained the sole independent predictor of fatigue severity.
Keep In Mind
Cross-sectional design limits causal inference; details such as recruitment setting, disease activity definitions, and treatment status are not included in the abstract.
